Boy

I put him to bed with a sense of relief - and them greet him when he wakes up with delight and anticipation. Just when I feel ready to crack his sunshine peeks through and I'm lost again in the joy of it all. I envy him the freshness of adventure and discovery of life as he learns. In all these things he adds to the wonder of living.

7 months is a really long time...

and yet the time has flown by so quickly. How can our boy already be 7 months old???

For those of you interested in stats:
Weight: 21.1 lbs.
Height: 27.5 inches
Crawling all over the place (heaven help me!)
Eating 4 meals a day in addition to nursing
Sleeping 9-10 hours at night, though teething has changed the face of sleeping for all of us, lately

I've been making all of his baby food which has been fun and challenging. I want to make sure he has variety to help give him more vitamins and healthy calories. We've been introducing all his food slowly, giving each new food item three to four full days before moving on to something new. This helps us identify if he has any allergies, but also gives his system time to learn to digest the new food. He has tried and liked bananas, peaches, avocados, plums, rice cereal, oatmeal, apple sauce, pear sauce, carrots, peas, blueberries and strawberries. His all-time favorites? Blueberries, bananas and peas for sure!

Daily activities:
He's been swinging from his barn swing almost every day and likes it so much we've decided to get him another swing to hang from our porch at the new house so he and Daddy can have fun together!
He helps me every morning and night with my chores while riding in the backpack and he gives his input where ever he can. His barn highlights? Petting and kissing Sabina and giggling at the goats when they're snorting at him. He also loves petting Fancy's soft nose which she obligingly puts in his face.
He loves playing with "stackable" toys (Kim got him some from IKEA which are his absolute favorites!) and his new wooden blocks.
We are teaching him very basic sign language, starting with the alphabet. He always gets a big smile when we start singing the alphabet song along with the signed letters.

That's all for now folks!

Mr. Photography

Madigan loves Nikon (lens caps) and Grandpa!

Grandpa surprised us with a quick visit last week, much to everyone's delight!

Diaperland

In an effort to save $$$ and be somewhat less wasteful we've had Madigan in cloth diapers. For the first couple of months the diapers proved to be just too big for his little bum and were leaking more than justifiable by any standards. So, we happily resigned ourselves to using plastic diapers. Once he reached 3 months old, though, he was able to fit into the diapers appropriately and we made the move. I think there are definitely benefits to using cloth (as mentioned above), but they are a good deal more work. I think I like most that Madigan seems to be very comfortable in them and that simultaneously he is more aware of and bothered when they're dirty which will definitely aid us in potty training down the road. Another benefit? They're super cute on him! Of course, I'm biased and think he makes anything look cute!
